Workshop with Qiang Huang - #1

Last week I attended a WONDERFUL workshop with Qiang Huang and hope to assimilate everything I learned.

Here's my first painting (with Qiang's help) I did in the workshop. The background is used as a stage for the objects (similar in theater). It's dark with a neutral color and the objects are in the spot light. The colors of the objects are also more saturated (than the background) and they seem to come out of the dark and pop up. There is also room in the painting for the whole setup, nothing is cropped. I never knew what to do with the background and I usually avoided painting it. But this gives me ideas for further experimentation. Thanks Qiang!

Oil on canvas panel, 8 x 10"

I'm trying to be happy for you that you got to take Qiang's workshop, instead of being jealous... Nope, not working. Your painting is terrific, however! Here's an idea- Meet me in Paris July 12th!

Thanks everyone for your comments. Qiang is a great guy, painter and instructor.

Donna, it's not the number of workshop that counts... keep painting! :)

Susan lol! Due to time constraint we will be in Canada in July this year and I won't be able to make it to Paris :( Bon voyage!
