Man with a Baseball Cap, Oil, 14 x 11"

I'm very happy with this first attempt of painting a portrait in oil.

So far the only successes I had with portrait were monochromatic. I have been unsuccessful so far with the use of colors. So you can see the underpainting I did first (below). That's the second attempt. Some of the lines from the previous one are still showing (I forgot to take a picture after I added the highlights). Then the burnt sienna underpainting gave me trouble to evaluate the skin color. So I painted everything except the skin.

I like all of these Johanne. They remind me of how much I liked the early portraits you did.

Wow, this is terrific, Joanne! Wonderful values and skin tones. Gaye Sekula is teaching a portrait class right now, which I'm taking. So I really appreciate your skill here!

Thanks Virginia for your kind words.(I don't know where my previous comment went)
I'm sure you'll do very well in the class and I'm looking forward to seeing some of the portraits you'll do.
